Offering a new computer as a gift is something you must think before and think well about it. Computers and not general machines like a Television or a mobile phone. It has special features and the use the person will give to it must influence greatly your final decision in the Store. Start by think about what kind of person he or she is. How much does she know about computers. What does she do for a living? Does she need a computer and does she wants one? Does she already have one? Think about all these situations for a moment or you can give her the wrong machine. Something that will make only the store boss happy. If she knows a lot about computers you can consider offering a powerful machine. Get one of the latest processors such as the Intel Core 2 Duo running at more than 2.0 Ghz. She will notice for sure you spent extra money on her gift. I guarantee you. If she uses the computer to work then make sure the machine you are buying will suit her like a glove in a hand. If she doesn't know a lot about the computers, then it doesn't need to be a super computer. Somebody who doesn't know how to use a computer to it's full will never use all the components and system power that a top class computer computer can give.
It's better for you to use that money to offer something else like a special program you know she needs or is looking for or even an extra battery or mobile internet. She will love it for sure. Dont get a computer with an AMD processot. Intel is much better. Amd is only good for games. To work, intel is much better. You can confirm this with special programs that test the entire computer and tell you what is the use use you can give to it. I recommend you to buy an Intel Core 2 Duo running at a speed of 2.2 Ghz or 2.4 Ghz. It must have at least 2 GB of RAM memory specially if the computer has Windows Vista installed on it For Windows XP 1 GB is enough but I recommend you to put 2 GB too. Windows Vista alone when you turn the computer on it eats more than 1 GB. I am talking because I recently bought a laptop with just 1 GB and Windows Crashes all the time because it says it doesnt have enough memory. 2 GB of RAM is not expensive specially if you buy just one piece with 2 GB. Beware of some stores that put 1 pieces of 1 GB each. It will make the computer more expensive and they only want to get rid of that pieces of RAM. A good hard disk must have at least 250 GB and must rotate at 7200 RPM and have a big buffer of 16 MB. The buffer is the bridge between the hard disk and the RAM. It's similar to the computer RAM but foe the hard disk. A slow hard disk will make the entire computer slower, something you must avoid at all costs.
