Top comic book to film adaptations and their appeal

Hollywood has discovered a diamond mine. Comic books are the in thing for studios to grab. Everything is there, plot, characters, villains. Just add a director and get some fan-boy to scribe a script and viola! instant box office dollars. I believe it's about a fifty-fifty split on whether the movie is good or not. Here is a list of the top ten all-time great comic book movies in no particular order:

1) 300 - This movie was done for the fans and is a faithful adaptation to the comic book. Done almost entirely without a set this movie shows some great advances in cinema. A smash bang movie that has most men watching it more than once.

2) Sin City - In your face destruction. Painstakingly faithful to the Frank Miller comic (graphic novel). A cast that includes a who's who of Hollywood. Two of the hottest directors in the business (Tarantino and Rodriguez). Just pure cool poured into this movie. Rumor has it that the Director's Guild was none to happy with Rodriguez for sharing co-director status with Frank Miller threatening to revoke his membership. Rodriguez's reply? "I'm here to make movies not to be in some club". No longer a DGA member.

3) The Xmen Franchise - Wow! These movies are amazing. The first two are directed by Bryan Singer and in my opinion much better than the third one. Oh by the way, Bryan Singer declined to do the third Xmen movie for another film...

4) Superman Returns - Bryan Singer gives us a complete movie. A masterpiece. Everything you could want from a comic book movie is in this flick. Mystery, Love, Action, Comedy... Truly a great flick and worth watching more than once.

5) Ghost World - A little known flick with Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson. Funny and quirky this flick delivers a light hearted coming of age adventure. Super supporting actor Steve Bushemi adds some flavor and brings some believability to the flick.

6) Spiderman Franchise - Sam Raimi is GOD! In my opinion the best director out there with tremendous vision and great story telling ability. These movies just keep the American public enthralled! I think the second movie is the best so far.

7) Batman Begins - The best Batman movie. Christopher Nolan helmed this movie and dragged batman kicking and screaming out of the hole the last two movies put him in. This is what Batman was supposed have been like all along.

8) Blade - A lesser known hero. This good guy with a bad temper is just plain fun to watch. The two movies that follow are OK but the first one really sets the ground. The alternate ending on the DVD of the first one is hilarious. Also Michael Baldoz plays a stunt guy who gets punched in the nuts by Wesley Snipes in the circle of death at the end of the flick. IMDB Michael Baldoz.

9) Hellboy - Just a fun movie that Ron Pearlman brings to life. Rumor has it that it was Ron Pearlman or no movie at all. Now the box office success has lead to a sequel due out this summer.

10) The Crow - Brandon Lee's claim to fame. This movie is dark and gratifying with a glimpse into the life of what could have been. Then all the crappy other Crow movies came out. *Sigh.

Well that's that and here's my disclaimer. I don't think I've seen every comic movie ever made so sorry if I left one of your favorites out. Enjoy.
