Soccer is a game played by millions around the world. Some of professionals. But the majority are amateurs, playing because of their love for the game. Soccer has many benefits, more so for kids who play it. Some of these benefits are listed below.
1. Fitness
According to Obesity.org, one in five American children are now overweight. Being overweight brings a host of health problems such as type two diabetes and hypertension. The reason for such an alarming number of kids being overweight is the 'couch potato' attitude prevalent not just in America but all over the developing world. Kids spend most of their time indoors, on the computers or watching television. Thus, by encouraging kids to take soccer, we are giving them a fun way to stay trim and fit. Soccer is one of the most physically demanding sports in the world. Kids who play soccer regularly are bound to burn a large number of calories. This is definitely good news.
In addition, kids who are serious about this sport will be interested in proper nutrition. They will want to eat the type of foods that will benefit them the most. Such an attitude would go a long way towards them leading a healthy life.
2. Teamwork
Soccer places a high emphasis on teamwork. No matter how skilled a player may be, he or she cannot be expected to win games on their own. Everyone in the team has to play a part. By interacting in such an environment, kids will be able to improve their social skills. They will learn that in order to truly succeed, one needs the help of one's teammates.
As they play over a period of time, the kids will develop a team attitude which may extend beyond the field, to the school and even other areas of life.
3. Discipline
Soccer is a game in which all the players have a defined role to play. Kids will thus learn that they can best contribute to the success of their team by sticking to the role assigned to them and doing it to the best of their ability. As much fun as it can be running all over the field, they will realize that sticking to their position would be better for their team.
These are just some of the benefits of soccer. Many more abound. Playing soccer will do kids a world of good and it is an excellent way for them to learn more about the world around them. So encourage all the kids you know, both boys and girls, to pick up this 'Beautiful Game'.
