With modern building today houses are much closer; with this comes an increase in glass creating a blend with outdoors and the luxury of the indoors creating a feeling of spaciousness and freedom. Consequently privacy is often compromised and security with the increase of glass areas. Added to this the increase in UV rays into the home creating a deterioration of furniture and fittings that the sunrays touch.
There are two things we can do, one is to leave things as they are and enjoy the full illumination of natural sunlight, but suffer the increase in cost as furniture and fittings never realize their full term of use unless we install expensive blinds or drapes to shut out the light, which defeats the objective of installing the glass. Secondly we have the choice to have the windows tinted, which will keep the intended over-all home design operative creating other benefits.
Window tinting film comes in few compounds and thicknesses as well as various shades. Some even have gold and silver layers giving the buyer a choice to suit their pocket and the extent to which they see the benefits for their home.
With energy savings being prominent today and glass being the biggest energy waster, we should consider insulating them as we have our walls and ceilings. Window tinting can be invaluable as it reduces the need for air conditioning and heating; these savings are soon recouped over and above the initial cost of tinting installation.
Two of the most important aspects of window tinting are the reduction of UV rays into the home by up to 99% and reduction of temperature during the summer by up to 15 degrees. On top of this depending on your application, an increase in security as the film once applied turns ordinary glass into safety glass, much like a car windshield.
The following gives the benefits of Window Tinting:
Window tint screens out over 99% of the damaging unforgiving Ultraviolet rays which destroys expensive fabrics, furniture and all manner of decoration it touches. Reducing Ultraviolet light with window tint will ensure your expensive draperies and fabrics; all wood surfaces and all other interior home furnishings keep their original colors. It is generally understood that the tinting will reduce Ultraviolet by 99% and also infrared which is a heat source by up to 91% depending on application.
Energy Savings
Window Tinting keeps your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The strong films can reduce room temperatures up to 15 degrees and reduce the infrared hot spots in areas of your home, which direct sunlight comes into contact with.
The main heating and cooling losses of every home is through the windows. Window Tinting reduces up to 75% of the heat coming through the glass, decreasing utility costs by up to 30% and making rooms more comfortable and protected all year round.
Glare Elimination
Window tinting will reduce the age-old problem of glare on TV's and computers to a comfortable level without having to make the room dark and then switch on a light.
Privacy and Security
Window Tintings are clear from the inside and mostly private from the outside. All medium to strong films are transparent when viewed from the interior allowing daytime privacy from the exterior with added security that you can see out but no one can see in. The application of window tint will add a welcomed degree of shatter resistance to your glass turning ordinary glass into safety glass.
Most window tinting is installed professionally, however there are applications for the DIY person known as static cling, which is installed using water and a squeegee. Today's applications are also mostly scratch resistant and generally come with a 15 year lifetime guarantee.
