The time of year is quickly approaching when families start to think about their summer vacations. However, given the fragile state of the economy and the escalating costs of household expenses, families find themselves emerging from a long and difficult winter season without much money left over. Some folks are even canceling their summer vacation plans completely, because they believe they can't afford it.
It doesn't have to be that way.
SHOPPING AROUND - DON'T WASTE TIME
We've all heard stories from friends and colleagues about the amazing vacation package that they discovered on the internet, saving hundreds of euros on their vacation. These stories motivate us to spend countless hours browsing the internet hoping to find a similar deal for our own family - only to realize that the savings are either on hotel stay only, and require purchasing high-cost airfare tickets in order to receive the "discount" package.
PRICE COMPARISON ENGINES MAKE SEARCHING EFFICIENT
The place to start when you're looking to vacation inexpensively are the price comparison engines which gather together all vacation deals into one convenient location so that consumers don't need to scour the entire internet to compare prices.
Benefits of these engines include free price comparisons, great family destinations to choose from, guarantees and travel assistance that offer peace of mind, and convenience. There is no longer any need to endure the stress of spending long hours on the internet to plan a family vacation.
Websites such as lowcostplanet.com, Priceline.com, and Orbitz.com are some of good places to start.
Before you purchase one of the travel packages from these websites, make sure that you understand what guarantees these websites offer, and what the cancellation policies are.
SHOULD I BOOK DIRECT?
Another important consideration is whether it's actually cheaper to purchase room, airfare, and rental reservations through the price comparison sites or directly. Most of the time, you will find such tremendous savings on these websites that the decision is pretty simple. However, there are some circumstances where it is actually a better choice to book a hotel room directly.
For example - on a trip to Paris, you may discover a stunning deal on one of these websites that includes hotel, flight and a rental car. However, on the hotel chain's website, they offer a package deal that includes free passes to local museums, discounts at local shopping destinations, and a free dinner for two every night. Sometimes such a package might actually save you even more.
The best advice - shop for the best deals using the price comparison engines first. When you locate the best deal, always check the hotel chain website and the airline website for the package you plan to purchase. If they offer nothing that will save you even more money then go ahead and click that "Buy" button, and enjoy a fun and exciting vacation that you know you can afford.
