The difference between professional wrestling and mixed martial arts are as clear as day. Both are trying to attract different audiences. Looking at the obvious, one is a sport that goes by who the better man being MMA and the other being pre-determined, which is professional wrestling. This is clear and there really aren't any similar attributes that could put the two in the same category. If it were the same, it would be hard to tell the difference but it's different. You just have to watch the two products and you will see the biggest differences. I'm going to go over the differences with the two and it will be as clear as crystal.
Mixed Martial Arts: It is covered and has mention on a major sports web site like ESPN.com. There are weigh ins generally with these people competing in certain weight classes. You got your lightweights, middleweights, and heavyweights much like in boxing. There are three rounds especially with UFC and victory is scored by a knockout, submission, or a judge's decision. You are competing to be the best in your weight class and to be champion at a competitive level. You see more in the way of a conference happening promoting the events at every turn.
Professional Wrestling: It is not held with legit and not covered anywhere unless you look at pro wrestling web sites giving away outcomes possibly. Here, they are based around performance and not so much a competition to see who is the better wrestler. If that were the case, it would be like amateur wrestling. The bouts are predetermined but the injuries are real. There are generally no weigh ins as anyone can compete for any belt now. As far as press conferences, generally they are not seen on TV to the best of my knowledge.
The only thing that is similar is that both require the person to be athletic in order to sustain punishment and of course be able to perform at their best. If you can't do that, then quite honestly it's not for you. Other than this, you really can't put the two together and say they are similar. MMA has its own audience and the same can be said for professional wrestling. There are major differences and to compare the two would be like an apple to an orange. Both are different products appealing to different audiences.
