Best fantasy adventure movies

My top ten fantasy adventure movies reflect the fact that I like the old stuff, when there were no digital effects, the camera didn't jerk and shake, the scenes lasted more than half a second and the music wasn't provided by a band of druggie guitarists and clanging garbage can lids. It seems obvious that the first choice of fantasy films would be, what else:

1. Fantasia (1940) This film combined the best of Disney hand-drawn animation with classical music, and even two generations later, is considerably more entertaining than all the computer-generated animated films of recent years. The most memorable segment was Mickey Mouse's swirling and colorful enacting the "Sorcerer's Apprentice," although the tutu-clad, dainty hippos dancing ballet episode is a close second.

2. The Wizard of Oz (1939) The fantasy adventure classic of all time, I watch it every holiday season, and even after all those years, I still find it fascinating and see new aspects to enjoy each time I see it. Judy and all the actors are gone now, but just a month or so ago, I saw a news photo of a group of Munchkin little people, now in their 80s and 90s, on a union picket line. They were joining the TV writers in striking for better residuals from the producers. I know the Munchkins never got much pay for their work in the long-ago movie, so I admire their hearts, brains and courage in their support of the striking TV writers (one a very dear, very close relative of mine).

3. Superman (1978) It always bothered me that hammy Marlon Brando got a million bucks for bleaching his hair and spouting a couple of mumbles before his planet Krypton blew up. However, the movie was quite entertaining in its innocent, comic-book scripting. The late Christopher Reeve, a man who showed superior real life bravery after his paralysis, was perfect in the dual characterizations of the caped crusader. As the fumbling reporter Clark Kent and the modestly heroic Superman, he played the part brilliantly with both a serious side and an aw-shucks humor as he did things faster than a speeding bullet. Since he had x-ray eyes, I thought he was a bit too slow to respond to the attributes of Lois Lane. Seriously, I hope they let you fly free in Heaven, Chris, because you sure as hell deserve it.

4. Miracle on 34th Street (1947) This classic is a fantasy only in its premise, because there are no real miraculous special effects nor unexpected visits by space aliens. A white-bearded old guy who calls himself
