Ah, what Easter season is complete without the marshmallowy, sugary goodness of Marshmallow Peeps? So cute, and yet so tasty. Once a rare treat only available a couple of weeks a year, "Peeps" can now be found in a variety of shapes and flavors, nearly year round. Operating under the assumption that we are only speaking of the original Peeps (chickies) and not hearts, Christmas trees, or any of its other multitude of forms, this is the proper way to eat Marshmallow Peeps:
1)Bite the head off the Peep. Yes this seems cruel, but it is the most painless way to go.
2)Eat the rest of the Peep in a second bite. This is much like stuffing a sugar covered marshmallow in your mouth in one bite. This minimizes the horror of the surviving peeps.
3)Continue the process with the rest of the Peeps in that row. We wouldn't want them to get lonely, err get stale...
4)If any Peeps should happen to go stale (how could you just leave them there after witnessing their friend's brutal death?), DO NOT throw the peeps out. They are just as good, some would say even better that way.
Special Instructions for Bunnies:
1)Bunnies should also be eaten head first. Anyone who has ever had a chocolate bunny knows this and the same principles apply.
2)Bunnies are more easily eaten in one bite than Peeps, so one may be tempted to try this. However, it is more humane for the bunnies for their head to be eaten first.
3) Bunnies present a special problem if you like to eat things in twos (there is nothing wrong with that!), as they are 5 to a row. Once again, the simplest solution to this is to eat the whole row. Never leave just one bunny in a row, that is just cruel.
Further tips for all Peeps:
1)Tempting as it might be, do NOT attempt to roast Peeps over a fire. This is just Peep cruelty. Also, the sugar will melt and make a big mess.
2)Do not lick your fingers in an attempt to get the sugary coating off your fingers. This will just create a vicious cycle of MORE sugar on your now-sticky fingers.
3)Do not leave your Peeps unattended-they may get away!
