Why has international intervention to stop the fighting in Darfur failed, and what policy alternatives might succeed?

International intervention to stop the fighting in Darfur has failed because of failure to see or respect the underlying cause of the conflict. When Arabs say they want Islamic law, they mean God's law. There is a conflict between the young and old and some tribes over others because some see modernity in media and think their people are holding them back from prosperity. The more religious tribes understand the importance of following God who warns against seeking after riches. We are now recognizing that the standards of the industrialized nations are destroying us by polluting our air, land, water and food; sickness and disease control our thoughts from youth to old age. Industrialized nations are continually sick, stressed, diseased or injured by modern lifestyles.

The international community intervenes with a push for what they believe are human rights. The true Islamic community knows that God directs the women to be keepers at home; the murderer shall die; children are to learn God's word and work along with the parents to learn how to be obedient and wise in the ways of the community. They learn to fight for God's ways against those who would take them away. The international community has an employment program for their military and it keeps people paying for military might whether it is used or not. The Islamic community calls on the faithful to fight when there is a need. General Bashir and Islamic leaders have gone too far and do not understand their religion correctly; but they want to be faithful against those that want to change their culture while taking their many resources.

The only policy that could succeed would be one to correct the understanding of Islamic law. The Qur'an says that judgment and ruling should be done by the Torah (Books of Moses) and the Gospel of the Bible. There are great divisions among religions, but the word of God to the various religions is not divided. The primary message of the Qur'an is to follow the whole Bible; it is in agreement with Jesus' message, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." God's law in the Bible is strict; but it is prevention and restoration for loss. There are no amputations for theft; the thief would have to repay 2-5 times what he stole and sometimes all that he has is taken.

Controversy among Muslim group rose in 1983 when President Nimeiry announced he would transform Sudan into a Muslim Arab state, divide the south into three regions and institute the Islamic Shari'a
