A definite trend has been growing for years now of homes becoming larger and larger. People want bigger everything. They want bigger vehicles to drive, bigger paychecks to spend, and big Macs to eat. But, how large is too large? Does a family of four really need to live a 5000 square foot home? Do young married couples without children need to buy houses so big, they have call each other on their cell phones while they are both at home?

A large family needs to live in a large home and a smaller size family really doesn't need to live a super-sized house. When people can afford to buy large homes, they figure why not buy the biggest house we can. They want to do better than their parents, so they buy larger homes.

It's a sad reality though, when new subdivisions are created to build very large homes. Do we really need to plow through more wooded areas to build more expansive homes? We are taking away important green space where animals such as deer, squirrels and even wild turkeys once lived. That's why people in new subdivisions have deer in their yards; their home was taken away from them. We are taking down millions of trees each year to build bigger and better homes.

Do we need bigger homes? Does a family of four need a three car garage, large expansive rooms with super high ceilings and super high heating and air-conditioning bills? Probably not, it just shows the world that these people are well off and they want everyone to know they are.

When a family lives in a large home, they become less of a family unit, and more independent and more selfish. With every family member having their own bedroom, with a computer, a TV, a cell phone and a video game player this means that they are doing less with each other. They are doing more things on their own, which is great to have independent children. But why be a family, when the family doesn't do anything together?

Yes, it's great to have a lot of room to do what one wants, and have plenty of storage space, but family unity is lost. Everyone can do their own thing in their personal space, and nobody seems to know exactly what that is. Almost everyone wants a beautiful, big home to call his or her own. But a family should know as much as they can about each other. That's why they are family in the first place. Then when one of the kids needs help, the parents can help and so can the other siblings.

What's wrong with watching television shows together? What's so bad about sharing the same interests with the kids? Life
