Look inside your jewelry box and count how many items you have received from your family as you were growing up. If you are anything like me, you have many pieces of jewelry that you have received over the years. Inside mine, I have items ranging from my engagement and wedding ring, to a little plastic necklace given to me by my younger sister. While the dollar amount they are worth may range greatly, the amount they are worth in my heart are equal. Many parents want to be sure that any gift of jewelry given to their child will be cherished in the years to come, so the gifts given should be made to stand the test of time.
If your little girl has her ears pierced, then a simple pair of earrings will certainly be a nice start in her collection. Today there are so many varieties of earrings, that you should be able to find the perfect pair to match her personality or interests. If this is her first pair of earrings, a simple stud with her birthstone should suffice. If your child is a bit older, maybe a nice small pair of hoops or something related to an interest of hers. Knowing what your daughter likes, and doing a little looking around could net you the perfect earrings for her to treasure for years to come. If your daughter does not have pierced ears, a locket is also a very good choice over the standard necklace. You can add their picture onto one side and a picture of yourself or family on the other, so anytime they open it they will remember who gave it to them.
As your daughter enters the world of adolescence, she will face many years of decisions...some easy, some hard. During this time, perhaps a purity ring would be the perfect gift to help her on her path to womanhood. Purity rings are no longer just simple bands, but come in many dazzling colors with many choices of stones (once again, maybe her birthstone would help to personalize this gift). Having a "grown-up" band on her finger may help your little girl feel more mature and perhaps even more secure with herself and her decisions as she grows up!
For those with little boys, in this day and age it is perfectly acceptable to give them little jewelry gifts that they'll be happy with! For the child who loves dinosaurs, why not give them a necklace with an impression of a dinosaur footprint? Most local museums have these items, and going to one with your son and allowing him to pick it out will help cement the memory of the gift in his mind. If you do not have a museum, you can always look on the internet
