Product reviews: Verizon XV6700 Pocket PC Phone

a megapixel of a picture, and the camera phones being even worse, it is surprising to find the XV-6700 already striving ahead with a 1.3x megapixel camera with flash. Now, don't get all excited in thinking that the quality is going to be equivalent of a professional camera or even a digital camera that you pick up at wal-mart for $100.00; it sure is a great deal better than what they used to be and are feasible in use for pictures and videos to share with friends and family. Yes, it does do video too, at the same quality as the camera.

Extra Storage- One of the greatest features in this phone is the expandable storage using mini-SD cards. While not as easily useable and cheap as the normal SD sized cards, the mini-SD still can be purchased to its equivalent at a slightly higher cost. Obviously they decided on the mini-SD to attempt to keep the size of the phone down to as minimal as necessary for all it's bang. I find a simple 512 mb card more than enough to do everything you want including loading a GPS program with several states pre-loaded into the system.

For the Stylus Loser- I always lose my Stylus. Whoever invented the holster was a terrible engineer to begin with. That goes for all devices using a Stylus style touch screen not just this phone. However, the winner of this phone is the alternate to the style. While you could always smudge the screen with your fingers and hope for the best, they included a very easy to use directional joystick to select anything that is currently on the screen. While it may be slower to use, its definitely a plus to when you find yourself staring down into an empty holster and wondering where you last put it or if perhaps it was run over by the car on your way to work.

Broadband- I have not used this feature myself. Reason being- im cheap and do not see the need to afford another chunk of change a month to use what is called EV-DVO. While it seems scary in its name, its simply the use of wireless phone signals to convert into data for surfing the net when you are not in an available wireless hotspot. For all who are wondering, you are NOT charged for using your own wireless internet (802.11b/g) and they do not detect if you have used it or not. However, i recommend deleting the wireless number it dials in your phone to connect using EV-DVO if you plan on never using its service so that you will not get charged. However, for those who don't care about how much it costs to keep them always connected, you will experience extremely fast speeds on the broadband (around 300kb/s) which you can actually use for a modem for your laptop while it is connected.

Well that is a summary of the general nice additions to the phone ontop of the standard PDA functionalities seen by the Axim 51v and of course the normal phone functionalities incorporated by any wireless phone plan. Please leave any comments or questions and I will honestly attempt to answer them for you in regards to either the PDA or the XV-6700. This includes and reghacks or ROM updates.
