The entrance requirements for getting into Heaven

The ticket to get into heaven is given to those who have said thank you to God. God wants everybody to be in heaven forever but sin makes that impossible. That is why He sent Jesus to live a perfect life, die a death he didn't deserve and go to heaven to make a place for the people who thank Him for his offer of love.

So what do we have to do?
Say thanks. That is all.

To receive the opportunity to go to heaven when we die we have to see that we are imperfect,or a sinner. If we see that we are in need of a saviour then we can ask Jesus to be that saviour. In order for a drowning man to be saved he has to realize he is drowning and let somebody rescue him. It's the same idea.

Sometimes people don't believe this and want to say that you have to be good enough. But that is not what the Bible tells us. If you read the book of John or Romans you will see that going to heaven which is often termed receiving eternal life is a free gift. One of the often quoted verses is John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave his only son that whoever believes in Him will now perish but will have eternal life."

I know that when I looked at my life when I heard this I didn't see much to be concerned about. I thought I was a pretty good person. But I thought that the story of Jesus and all he had done and how he taught his students was so cool. So I was convinced that he was not just a really good guy but was God the son. I felt that what he said to Philip in answer to Phillip's request to ,"Show us the Father." was very interesting. He said , "Have I been with you so long and yet you don't know me? I and the Father are one. If you have seen me you have see the Father."

But the problem was that I didn't think I was a sinner. So I couldn't accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour because I didn't have a sin. I began to look over my life carefully to try to find a sin. I decided that maybe I swore too much. That probably was a sin. I asked a minister if that was a sin and if it would qualify me as a sinner. He said it did and would and prayed with me as I told God what I wanted to do and why.

It is exciting to me to know that I am assured of going to heaven. I don't have to be perfect. But I am a better person now because I have God helping me to be better. I have no problem however, seeing myself as a sinner now. I still do wrong things and say wrong things but I will have a ticket to heaven because I saw how much God loves me and I thanked Him for it. He is only waiting for that much effort. That is all it takes.
