How to make a great sandwich
The kid lunch staple, peanut butter and jelly is quite often seen as something that is usually made only one way: peanut butter and grape jelly. What many make the mistake of doing is seeing this as a one-way-all of making this sandwich, but thinking outside the box and a little creativity can go a long way.
If you're someone who doesn't like so much moving out of their comfort zone and trying new, odd things, then starting off with something as simple as changing the type of jelly/jam you use. Strawberry and apricot jam and preserves are a great way to start. Even changing around the bread can make an enormous difference, using wheat bread is typically popular and even sourdough bread is quite often preferred.
Peanut butter even comes in variations. Kraft makes a chocolate chip peanut butter and is as it sounds, peanut butter with little chocolate chips on the inside, something like this though doesn't even really require and jelly or jam; just eat it as it is.
But for those who really enjoy experimenting with their food, an entire new play on this classic sandwich comes into play.
A grilled peanut butter and cheese sandwich may sound delectable to some. It takes two slices of bread, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and 1 slice of cheddar cheese and some butter/margarine. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Spread peanut butter on one slice of bread, lay a slice of cheese over the peanut butter, and top with the remaining slice of bread. Spread butter on the outer sides of the sandwich, and place in the hot skillet. Fry on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted, 3 to 5 minutes. (allrecipes.com)
Another favorite among some people is a peanut butter an apple sandwich. (allrecipes.com) It is easy to prep, spread the desired amount of peanut butter on a slice of bread, and place slices of a peeled, cored, apple on top and place the second slice on top and enjoy! This sandwich is great for people watching their food intake as this sandwich has only 299 calories, 7.7 grams of fiber, and 9.8 grams of protein. (about.com)
One more variation is a grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich. This is a tasty little breakfast idea, it is also prepped and prepared just like a grilled cheese, too. A little drizzle of honey on top of the bananas may also prove worth trying.
So while there is now obviously many news innovations for the classic kids lunch staple, but there are an infinite amount of ideas one can try, for even more recipe ideas for peanut butter and jelly, visit allrecipes.com and try a few for yourself!
