My job experience:
I am assuming that means something that has happened to me while at a job. I am writing this because I was observing at work the other day, and I just really had to share with someone.. so here all.. a little comic relief!
I am in the copy room fairly early in the morning. The room is a medium sized room, one of the only rooms with a bathroom connected, so it gets a lot of traffic. There are two copy machines in the room on the same wall, on the other wall are work surfaces and mailboxes for all of the employees.
I am standing at the copier furthest from the door. So people don't have to walk past me while I am copying a HUGE project.
A co-worker comes in and puts her papers in to copy, a fairly new manager comes in right after her, she see's that I have a giant project copying, and she see's that the other girl has just put her papers in to copy, so she stops and waits, kind of like she is in line in the lunchroom or something.
The girl runs her copy's and is trying to organize her items, the new manager walks right behind, not asking if she is done with the copier, and sticks her papers in the feeder. Seriously, right on her tail! The other girl takes her items and goes on her way. The new manager gets her copies and goes back to her desk.
My Observation:
People have absolutely no boundaries or manners anymore. She didn't ask if the girl was done, she got too close while the girl was still finishing up her copies.
I have to associate it with the grocery store, when you are in line to check out. If you are in a lane where it's only a couple of items and you don't have a cart, and the person behind you is BREATHING down the back of you neck.. WHY? Why can't you take two steps back, no one will cut you! I promise!
My Recommendation:
Get some boundaries and some manners! To those that feel they need to be creepily close to you during a situation like that, take two steps back. And to those that just can't wait for a copy, it's so important, you have to step into a boundary, count to ten before you even step near the machine. Give that person a tiny bit of breathing room. And please! Start saying Please & Thank you in the workplace! People get so busy, they feel they don't need the niceties.. but I guarantee, you will get more effective staff if you are nice and say please and thank you!
Thanks!
