Easy weight loss: A personal plan to get in shape - and stay in shape

Obesity is a problem that has attained epidemic magnitude and it is increasingly being viewed as a serious and growing public health issue.

The reasons for being obese might vary. Mankind today is guilty of overindulgence. We consume too much food, rich in cholesterol, salt and sugar. We smoke and drink excessively and maintain a very unhealthy life style. Genes, multiple pregnancies, eating disorders, depression and binges can all result in obesity which adversely affects out emotional and physical health.

There are no short cuts to get rid of obesity but to get in shape and remain in shape, we need to take a good look at our life style and make the necessary changes to ensure that we do not succumb to obesity.

~Change your habits:

First of all be honest. Is the flab you are carrying around your tummy due to genes or a very inactive, sedentary life style? How much time do you spend glued to television screen or typing away on your computer? When was the last time you rode a bicycle or went for a long refreshing walk? I am not talking about the shopping mall aisle where you put one step in front of another leisurely but one taken in the park with long even strides that pump up your heart and make you sweat?

Do you go everywhere in your car? Do you always take the escalator and avoid taking the stairs? Do you always try to park your car at the entrance and then take the elevator up to your apartment or office? If you have answered most of these questions with an affirmative, you must change your habits sooner than later.

Do you go to bed soon after dinner time? Going to bed with a full stomach is suicidal. Always eat your dinner at least two hours before sleeping. If you feel hungry, eat fresh fruits.

~Change your diet :

Stop eating white' substances like refined sugar, flour, white bread, white rice etc. Use whole wheat or bran.

Avoid drinking fizzy drinks at all costs. Substitute these with plain drinking water or fresh fruit juices to flush out toxins and purify blood. Do not use sugar to sweeten your beverages and learn to drink them strong and bitter.

Swap ice cream with fruit yogurt. They taste almost equally good when fresh and cold. Jams have too much sugar content. Use honey instead.

~What Not To Do

Never skip breakfast. It makes you gain fat while making you lose energy. Always have a good, nutritious breakfast which includes skim milk, cereals, low fat yogurt and fresh fruits. Calcium makes you lose weight.
