Chelsea haveenjoyed success in recent years by winning the FA Cup, the Premier League and Carling cup. Jose Mourinho was instrumental in leading these recent victories. In results against big teams the owner of Chelsea became unhappy with Mourinho's results against top rival clubs, and also the charismatic character that will always be Mourinho, was a contributing factor that the management wanted to change. Mourinho also it must be noted failed to win the title, and champions league which really was the main priority.
Chelsea's owner Abramovich own wealth is a symbol that Chelsea can attract the best players and pay high wages. The squad is full of top quality world class talent. The wage structure by players such as John Terry, Frank Lampard are regularly trying to negotiate astronomical wage packages.
Avram Grant, his successor a previously former Israel national side coach and little known to be honest, was brought in to the club to keep Chelsea's Premier league ambitions alive, along with the additional aim to try and lift the Champions league title. It is still early days to judge Avram Grant as a manager of success. He certainly lacks totally the charisma and aura that is a leading quality of Jose Mourinho.
they have since been knocked out of the FA Cup to a Barnsley side in the championship division, and also losers to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling cup. The one saving grace for Chelsea and Avram Grant was the recent 2-1 victory against Arsenal. This kept Chelsea in touch with leaders Manchester United. Still Chelsea are in the lucrative and prestigious quest for Champions league honours.
My belief is that will be a strong side regardless of manager, Mourinho or the next manager and after that. I think Chelsea's fans will consider the loss of Mourinho as a real bitter sweet to swallow. Though victory in the Champions league this summer in June will soon cancel out the loss of the manager in a hurry should management of the team pay off. However like Mourinho, doubters are still alive, and only success will silence his critics and buy him extra-time in this most highly pressurised job.
Also there are fears within Chelsea's supporters that some of there existing top class players such as will leave and join Also the captain and some others could also exit. This would cause much problems for the team should the team fail to gel together early next football season.
