The most important thing that we can do as parents is to provide our children with every tool that they need to succeed in the world. This means emotional tools, as well as education. A strong attitude is truly the key to success. If we look at the people in this world who hold beloved careers and who have achieved the highest goals in education we can clearly see a pattern. These people not only have the learning ability that is required but they have the attitude needed to succeed. The key to all of this is self esteem. Most successful people even have borderline arrogant personalities. They have some of the highest self esteem and feelings of self worth that I have ever seen.

I think that as a parent we need to give our children all the encouragement and the praise that we can to build their self esteem. Not just physical self esteem but also mental. Praise your children. Raise them with a sense of security. Tell them every single day that they are loved and special. Let them know that they are intelligent and unique individuals who will truly make a difference in the world as they grow. A parent needs to take a deep interest in their children's school work and their hobbies. Be active with your child. I don't care if the child is a teenager or simply in first grade. If your first grader brings home a paper that is colored and is proud then build upon that pride. Shower it on. Words are power. True and meaningful power. Don't spare your words. Let your child know just how fantastic and wonderful they are. Let them know how much they mean to you. And never belittle what interests them. The hobby or interest might seem frivolous or silly to you but to your child its the world.

As a parent we need to try to make every single soccer game, little league game, football game, or whatever hobby your child enjoys. I know that in todays world this is often not very realistic. Its hard to achieve free time ourselves from our busy careers but childhood will pass in the blink of an eye. The years fly by. We have got to be there for our children during those formative years. If this means missing some time at work and maybe taking a small cut in your paycheck then its worth it. The childhood years can never be replaced and its the most important time we can give our child.

Build your child's self esteem to succeed and your child will truly succeed in life because it he or she will have the attitude that is required to compete in the highly competitive work field of today. Your child will have the attitude to pursue that attainable degree that requires self esteem, hard work, commitment, and an attitude to succeed.
