A good question is posed here and it requires some thought as to why any Republican would or should feel sorry for Hillary Clinton. She has consistently shown a desire to gain the reins of power by any means she deems necessary. She follows the rules of the game only when it suits her and she dismisses them whenever they conflict with her desired goals. If republicans find a need to feel sorry for her, then it can only be that they already feel sorry for themselves and have developed a deep shame of the actions, or lack of, of their own party. Then again, Republicans have, over the last seven years, become accustomed to and resigned to an administration that flaunts the rules when it suits them, overlooks the needs of the general public and uses fear to try to convince us that what they do is in our best interests. Yes, come to think of it, I guess some of them could feel sorry for her.

These elections of 2008 may be among the most critical to the average American in the history of our country. The economy is in the tank, the tanks are in Iraq and greedy corporations have us over a proverbial barrel. The Democratic candidates promise a change in direction but they fail to tell us how they can possibly pay for it while meeting the commitments we are already mired in so deeply. The Republicans want us to continue on as we have done, creating an even greater deficit, antagonizing even more of our allies and promoting hatred of our nation among those who would wish us harm. The choice is not a good one, I fear.

If the survey was to be broken down and looked upon with realism and not political correctness, one might find that most Republicans who feel sorry for Hillary are women. I would suspect they feel that she is being ganged up on by the male establishment. It is, of course, their choice. However, to anyone who would feel sorry for her, I would say that she has proven to be a divisive figure in our politics and one who would generate a voter turnout committed to voting against her. I personally feel this country needs someone to vote for!

By now, if you've read this far, you know I am not the least inclined to feel sorry for her. Fortunately for me, I gave up on being a Republican years ago and became an independent. An independent without a horse in the race, I might add. I've yet to see a candidate that I feel is in touch with my concerns or my needs. No, I can't feel sorry for Hillary. Nor can I engender any enthusiasm for any of the potential candidates.

I leave all of you potential voters with this thought:

Politicking is an adult game
I've often seen it played
It leaves the crowds confused and lost
And often times, dismayed

Politicians say the darnedest things
They claim their platform's stout
But it's always difficult to talk
From both sides of the mouth

They protect votes like a mother hen
When election time is near
While conveniently forgetting
What they've done in other years

Politicking is an adult game
Alas, I fear it's true
Can you speak with some conviction
About what they've done for you?
