Nelson Mandela said," There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living."
A friend told me a story about twin brothers. They grew up in a violent, alcoholic household where their dad was constantly inebriated. Years later, the one brother became a top businessman, whilst the other brother became a drunk.
An acquaintance of their's caught up with them one day and asked the one brother, "Why are you a drunk?" The brother replied "I had no choice my father was a drunk." He then asked the other brother "How come you became such a successful businessman? The businessman looked at him and said "I had no choice my father was a drunk."
The important thing is that the circumstances in which we are born into does not determine who we become. It is what we choose to do about out circumstances that destine our greatness.
Every one of us has a gift, it may be writing, acting, playing football, golf or tennis, and whatever it is you do without effort is your gift. Some people refer to is as natural brilliance, because you do it effortlessly.
So in my opinion, yes we are all born for greatness, but many of us do not use our talents, skills or gifts. We only live our lives at half our true potential.
I will sum it up by sharing one of the greatest poems ever, written by Marianne Williamson.
"What is our deepest fear? Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
So go out there and shine in your greatness.
