A million pounds could change the world. Well, at least my world but I'm not so inclined. I rather like my life with its undulating colors and tricky turns. A million pounds would probably change the things about me that I like. There are days that seem to weigh too much, but they pass and bring better ones.
I might go to Italy and rent a small house in a remote area for one year. I would buy an old typewriter, a lot of coffee, a French coffee pot and a new pair of shoes. I like those sandals that the women in India wear. I would wear my leather sandals, sip strong coffee and finish writing my manuscripts.
Anonymously, I would pay the utility bills and rent for people I didn't know. Of course, I would make sure there was enough money for my children to attend college, if they want to. They might want to travel or start a business. That's fine, too. One of my children will probably use it for gumballs and video games. As long as no one gets hurt and everyone's happy!
I love the book, "The Secret" so I would buy copies and pass them out to every lost, and sad person I know. Nothing else has inspired me more and the information is more valuable than cash.
I would probably leave small stacks of cash in random places, like the counter at the gas station or on a park bench. I'd like to see what people do. Will they snatch it up and run or will they leave it alone? I wonder if people would argue over it or turn it in to the police. I would watch from a remote area and take notes.
I would divide the rest and distribute it evenly among young people with astute minds and fierce motivation. I'd ask them to use it to make a difference and to send me a note in a few years telling me how it helped them.
My life has not been easy and there have been times when I thought that if I only had more money it would make everything all right. There have been times when I had more money than I knew what to do with and it didn't change any of the problems that I had.
Being financially secure is comforting and empowering but having too much money is useless and leads to an empty life. I wouldn't trade a day in my life for all the money in the world because the people I have come to know and the experiences I've had are priceless. My strife has helped form my character.
I like being independent and resourceful. I like knowing that no matter what happens, I can deal with it and make the best of it. Money may solve immediate problems but it can't buy the things that matter most.
