Alternative Medicines, Natural Healing For Common Ailments
Asthma
One in every three adults, and one in ten children are afflicted with chronic asthma. An asthma attack is caused by inflammation of the airways within the lungs, which restricts airflow and makes it difficult to breathe. Chronic asthma is characterized by frequent acute attacks, and requires medication in order to prevent the attacks, and ease the intensity of them. Symptoms of asthma are, a tight feeling in the chest, wheezing when inhaling, being short of breath, a continuous cough, usually frequent at night, anxiety, or high pulse rate. Chronic asthma is usually treated with conventional medicine, but alternative medicine can ease the symptoms, but should not be relied upon without the consultation of a medical professional. Some acute asthma attacks can lead to hospitalization, though most can be treated at home with an inhaler. Having asthma is usually associated with living in areas high in pollution, around smokers, growing up with smokers, et cetera. Other causes can be allergies, and stress or anxiety.
Chamomile is a powerful antihistamine that can relieve asthma symptoms brought on by allergic reactions. Elderberry can relieve nasal congestion, while Ephedra, when used correctly relieves chest and bronchial congestion, and Green Tea opens up the bronchial passages, to help breathing. Hyssop Tea can also be used to relieve congestion in the respiratory system. Ginger alleviates the asthmatic reaction to allergies as well. Licorice root can help to generate more mucous, which prevents a dry, painful cough. Lobelia tincture can relieve and soothe bronchial tissue, while also alleviating the inflammation.
Burns
As most people know, burns come occur in three different levels. First degrees burns are when the skin is reddened and inflamed, but not broken. Second degree burns are evident as blisters have formed, and are extremely sore to touch. Third degree burns are the most serious, when an entire layer has been removed, and the nerve endings have been cut off, or damaged. In the event of a third degree burn, always seek medical assistance first. Treating first degree and smaller second degree burns on your own is appropriate, as long as nothing is used on the skin that might cause an allergic reaction. For immediate treatment, always apply either cool compresses, or submerge the burn in cool water for about fifteen minutes, being careful not to puncture any blisters that might have formed.
