Anybody can get voluminous hair simply by following common-sense healthy hair habits. In fact, many people believe that having voluminous hair is the result of genetics. Right, and wrong. Even people with thin hair can give volume to their hair. Here's how:
The first tip is simply the method of washing and drying the hair. First, don't believe those shampoos which say, "Volumizing," because chances are, they do not work. Second, don't believe that you can only get "volumized" hair by going to a professional salon. Don't do it. It's a waste of time and money. All you have to do at this stage is learn how to wash and dry your hair properly. Wash your hair using a very mild or very gentle shampoo. Choose a shampoo that lists decyl glucose as an ingredient instead of sodium laureth sulfate. You can make your own shampoos by searching for the recipes online. There are tons of them out there, and many of them are really good.
Wash your hair using cold water. It doesn't have to be so cold that you can't stand to be under the water, but it shouldn't be too hot or too warm either. Too hot/warm water will make your hair dry out. Once you have washed your hair, dry it by patting it with your towel. Try not to vigorously rub the towel into your scalp. Always allow your hair to air-dry. Never blow-dry your hair. You will wonder, however, whether this will give you any volume. It will if you have the patience. Do not comb your hair when it is wet. Doing so will eliminate the natural volume you are gaining. When your hair is completely dry, you can just lightly, gently scrunch it to make it more untangled, or, if you need to comb it, you can comb it by bending forward and allowing your hair to drape all around you. Comb from the back of the head down. If you can't do this for some reason, then comb your hair starting from the inside, rather than on the "outer shell" of the hair.
The next tip is knowing what kind of brush to buy. To give volume to your hair, the best brush is probably a boar's bristle kind of brush that is cylindrical. These can be quite expensive, but they are well worth it and they last for a very long time. Comb thoroughly by starting from the inside, and roll the brush gently as you comb. Not only will this give your hair volume, but it will give it a lovely rounded shape.
When you are done, you don't have to use hairspray or gel to keep your hair in shape. Just make sure that you aren't running your fingers through your hair, patting your head or hair, or just doing anything to your hair. If you don't, then your hair will keep its shape and its volume.
