How to wake up early

Every morning the alarm goes off, and every morning you fumble around in the dark, trying to hit the snooze button to get a few more precious minutes of sleep. We have all been there on a regular basis. For most people, it is not easy waking up early in the morning. However, one of the most useful skills that you can possibly teach yourself during college is the art of waking up early. For many people (myself definitely included), this can be a very difficult thing to do. But if you are able to get up early and be an effective thinker and worker in the morning, that will be extremely beneficial for you throughout your life.

The first tip is an obvious one - go to bed at a decent hour. If you are a night owl, you might be used to staying up until all hours of the night, and then trying to wake up early anyway. I can tell you from personal experience that this does not work well. Go to bed a little earlier so that you can get at least 7-8 hours of sleep tonight, and your chances of successfully waking up early increase exponentially.

If you're not used to going to bed early, this can be a difficult task. But you need to avoid caffeine late in the day, avoid late night snacking, and get a proper amount of exercise. All of these things will help you get to bed earlier, which will help you to wake up early. You need to properly prepare yourself before you go to bed if you expect to be able to wake up early.

Another thing is to just have a positive attitude about the morning! It can be easy to go to bed and then completely dread getting up early. But like all things in life, if you have a bad attitude about something, it is going to be that much harder to accomplish it. The morning can be a beautiful time. Try to see the beauty of a peaceful, serene morning. Try to give yourself something to look forward to. Maybe you can plan to do something fun everyday when you wake up, giving you more incentive to wake up early. These small tricks such as changing your mindset might seem obvious, but they really can work to help wake you up earlier.

Being able to wake up early and be effective working in the morning is a useful thing that can help you throughout your school life and your professional life. Unfortunately, it can be a very difficult thing to do, especially if you're not in the habit of waking up early. But with these tips, you can be on your way to becoming an early riser.
