CALLING AND RECALLING
You, who designed a parent's heart,
Must understand mine, torn apart,
To see a child turn aside
In deep resentment and false pride.
Please draw him back to You, I plead;
Help him to see his soul-deep need.
My Lord, help him recall.
This younger charge, but mine on loan
Belongs to You, and You alone.
Dear God, erase the words I spoke,
Those aimed to anger and provoke.
Remind him of the deeds of grace;
These memories may the ill replace.
My Lord, help him recall.
He knows not that the road he chose
Will lead directly to his foes.
This young world-beater has it all,
Which primes him surely for a fall.
Please turn his rock-hard heart to You,
Do what You must for his breakthrough.
My Lord, help him recall.
Oh, Father, hold him ever near,
And, Lord, preserve his tender ear.
Although he listens not to me,
Please guard him, though we disagree.
May he discover then firsthand,
Tis better in Your Promised Land,
When he on You shall call.
