New Balance has a few shoes out for the 2008 trail running season. The following are ones that I found to be well received by the running community and have even earned top kudos from respected authorities such as Runner's World. The final reason I focused on these in particular is because I think they represent a good cross selection of what we can expect to see from New Balance this year.
New Balance began back in 1906 when a 33 yr old waiter, William J. Riley, went to work on developing a way to help relieve the pain suffered by people that were working on their feet all day. The result? Arch support . Three years later the waiter was listed in the Boston Business directory under the heading of shoemaker'.
William J. Riley designed his first running shoe in 1928 for a Boston running club known as the Boston Brown Bag Harriers. That would grow to become New Balance in 1941 when the company was creating custom shoes for running, baseball, basketball, tennis and boxing.
New Balance turned things upside down in 1960 when they introduced the Trickster, a shoe that was available in multiple widths. By the 1970's New Balance had developed into a specialized shoe manufacturer that was priming itself up for the 1981 release of the 990 - the first running shoe to break the $100 bar.
New Balance celebrated its 100th year in 2006 and has continued to build on the commitment to provide customers with quality shoes that meet the needs of the buyer.
