Should English be the official language in the USA?

I am an American. I was born here and I will die here. That is by choice. I love this country as much as anyone can. As an American who was taught English when I went to school, I would like to say that yes, English should be the official language of our country.

If you choose to live here, you choose also to learn the language so that we can understand you. It is not the other way around. Although I feel that it can't hurt to know other languages so that we can speak to people who visit us without the use of an interpreter, English is our language. It should be expected that people moving here from other countries should know how to communicate with us.

It is not our job to bend to every whim that comes across because we might offend others. If I went to France to live, wouldn't it make sense for me to learn how to speak their language fluently? I think it would make sense.

Quite honestly, I don't even know how this can be a question. The politics maybe? I don't know where things like this come from. Where are the heads of those that make these decisions when they would even consider making a change like that? I could tell you where their heads are but I would probably get flagged for it.

One of my favorite saying is "Welcome to America, Now speak English". That should say it loud and clearly enough for the whole world to see. There are still a few Americans here. The ones that don't believe we should just let illegal immigrants run around freely and the ones that believe our language works for us.

It is very tiring trying to fight for what is right. We all know that. What seems like something so simple to other nations seems like a puzzle here. It's wonderful that so many people want to come live here. It's not wonderful that they try to make changes so drastic that it is no longer the United States. When you come here and open your mouth, make sure that I can understand what you are saying. I will welcome you with open arms as long as you don't try to change what is America.

When I went shopping for a new television, it took several turns of the box before I could find the English words on it. I wanted to know what I was buying. However, the number of different instructions that go along with your new toys can be very frustrating. I can't read other languages. I can only read English. I can only read English because that is what I was taught to know. I don't need instructions in ten different languages. One will suffice. That one is English!

Although at some point, my family came to America, possibly from a country that had a different language. They had to learn English in order to survive here. It didn't kill them. It gave them the ability to be a part of the community that they lived in.

Learn English if you want to live here. I am not a politically correct person. I don't care what you think of my opinion. I am an American and I am allowed by law to not only have that opinion but to state it loudly and clearly. That is the beauty of being born American. You can say anything that you have an opinion on and you can't be prosecuted for it. Just say it in English please.
