Reflections: Motorcycling

There is nothing like riding on a motorcycle to wipe out all your worries. I can honestly say that it's one of the most relaxing past times there is. I enjoyed my tenure as a "motorcycle mama".

Motorcycling isn't for everyone. It certainly can have it's drawbacks and should only be done on nice days. Riding in the rain wasn't one of my favorite things about riding on a bike. Others will tell you that if you are a true biker, you will ride no matter what the weather is. This includes snow and ice storms. I don't see a lot of bikes hitting the roads when it's like that though. I think most of that is just talk.

I wouldn't change anything about the three day trip that the motorcycle club took. Riding up into the mountains of West Virginia was one of the most awesome sights I could have ever laid my eyes on. Had I been confined to a car, I would not have seen the amazing amount of beauty that I did on that trip. It was absolutely breath-taking.

It wasn't just the beauty around us that made the trip so special. We found a bond with the other bikers that weekend that can never be replaced. It was just out and out fun. It truly does create friendships that last a lifetime. You experience something that others don't.

Bikers are from all walks of life. Doctors and lawyers ride them as well as the rough and rowdy. The best thing of all is that they ride together. There are no upper and lower class when you are riding. Everyone is exactly the same.

I did notice that when we would ride into a quiet town we would get dirty looks from some of the older folks. They looked at us like we were going to come in and destroy their town. We got just as many wide-eyed looks from little kids and some adults that wish they were riding on those bikes with us.

Riding along the country side in Eastern Pennsylvania was amazing as well. There are many wonderful back roads to travel down. You find many unique places to go spend a couple hours of your time. The little Amish children out in the field get ever so excited and jump up and down waving their arms at you. See, even Amish children want to ride motorcycles.

Riding in a poker run is a great way to spend an afternoon. If you get the chance, do it. You meet a lot of new people that way. It's a lot of fun, kind of like a scavenger hunt. There is always fun stuff at the end of the ride where you have a chance to talk to some of the other bikers. Check out other peoples bikes and see what makes them so great.
