To live an unconventional lifestyle? To what reason is the idea of how 'you' want to live your life deemed unconventional? Just because you have chosen to adopt a lifestyle that is not within the majority of opinions, you are such labeled as being ''different'' and ''not normal.''
People always look towards how other members of society have chosen to live their lives. If someone is living by alternate means, or they have chosen to have a difference of opinion on how they survive, people automatically form a resistance of disagreement.
Why? If it does not directly affect other people, and it does not contravene any particular laws, then it is entirely up to the individual to follow whichever path he, or she has chosen.
Being vegan, a gypsy, self sufficient, homeschooling, or living in a commune, to name but a few of the varying alternate lifestyle choices that are constantly viewed by the majority as being different and not being conventional. Some people choose to live in a city and view rural living as non-existent, and vice versa. The decision is up to the individual.
In this modern age we are inundated with reports of people who are living their lives along a separate path to the mainstream population. Questions are raised and opinions heard, but it must be remembered that a person is still entitled to have their own freedom of choice. If they find a manner in which pleases themselves, then why should they alter their beliefs just because others do not follow the same line of opinion.
If I, myself, were to suddenly join a monastery, people who know me would question my reasoning. They would inquire as to why I would want to leave everything that I currently possess and adopt this alternate lifestyle and way of thinking. My answer would be that I am not going to actually do this, but if I wanted to it would merely be my choice. I can listen to another person opinions and advice, but theoretically it would be my own choice, no matter if the majority viewed this as being incorrect.
What would the world be like if everyone followed the same route in life? What would we all gossip about? What would be there be to strive for in life?
We are all inherently different and therefore we all want different things in life. You can be vegetarian, you can sport a mohican hairstyle if you want. The world is full of alternate values and beliefs, and people are entitled to adopt the aspects that appeal to themselves. Without this choice, mankind would cease to be! Its the differences that keeps us evolving.
