STICKY SPARE RIBS Article: This is a recipe that's great for dinner parties and can make your guests believe that you are a cordon bleu cook, even if cooking isn't your best talent. No suggestions needed for leftovers, as the dish is so tasty that it always gets completely devoured at one sitting.
For 2 people you will need........
2lbs of assorted sized pork spare ribs
2 tablespoons tomato puree/paste
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (or tangy brown sauce/ketchup)
2 heaped teaspoons raw cane brown sugar
1 small onion, peeled and thinly sliced
1 small clove of garlic, peeled and finely chopped
METHOD
Pre-heat your oven to very hot (electric 425 degrees, gas mark 8).
In a flameproof dish, arrange the spare ribs.
Mix the tomato puree/paste with the Worcestershire sauce (or tangy or brown sauce/ketchup), garlic, onion and sugar - blend well. Pour this mixture over the spare ribs.
Bake, uncovered, for approximately 45 minutes (see first paragraph for oven temperature)
Serve alone as a starter, or with mashed potato and green peas as a main meal.
This dish also works well with spicy sausages. Just cook the sausages thoroughly first, and follow the recipe using the cooked sausages instead of spare ribs.
When eating these ribs, they seem to taste much better if you eat them with your fingers. It's very messy, so have lots of hand-wiping materials available and a bowl of hot water containing a slice of fresh lemon.
