to give a letter of recommendation to their family for being good community members, Malory remembered disgustedly!
Even Angie her older sister had nothing to offer, she was a straight A's student, a swimming champion and had the best voice in the church choir!
Malory avoided her friends walking home alone dejectedly. Her 10th birthday was coming up the next day and her parents had organized a slumber party just for Malory and her four closest friends.
They had already cleaned out the basement and were going to decorate and fix it up with sleeping bags that night.
But Mallory was not looking forward to it any more. She had made a big fool of herself in class today. She was sure no one would come to her party or be her friend again.
"What's wrong sweetheart?" Mallory saw her mum and dad exchange looks after dinner.
Her brother was already in the basement while her sister was in the kitchen making some of her some delicious Blueberry Danish pie for her party, she would put the thick cream on the top the next day.
"Nothing Mum, just wondering if my friends would be coming for my party. What if they have to go for another party?" Mallory said with tears in her eyes. She could not let her parents find out that she told a tale. Telling lies was something her parents found displeasing.
"Don't worry, we'll just send them reminder phone calls tomorrow so they'll remember you asked them first" Her mother said hugging her.
"Besides, your friends would like to celebrate your special day with you and some of those your sister's delicious Danish delights" Her father said tousling her hair.
He started tickling her making her laugh and then ran after her growling and making funny faces.
Mallory's fears were forgotten as her friends started arriving at exactly six pm the following day. Before she knew it, she was opening gifts, eating, dancing and having a good time with her friends.
Much later in the night, they lay eating chocolates and talking about some of their teachers and their other classmates.
"What ever made you tell that silly tale in class yesterday?" Kim asked, while the others gasped and looked uncomfortable.
"You don't have to answer that Lory! We love you all the same" Turi said with a look of disgust.
"Well, there is no use pretending that you don't want to know!" Kim said with a determined look. She could not stop herself from asking, even though they had all agreed not to say anything. It was so unlike Mallory to do something like that.
"I just wanted to have something
