The Slumber Stir

It was all their fault! Malory sat at the back of the tools shed crying. Her family had caused it all, now look what has happened!

Malory remembered the mocking laughter of her classmates and the small smile on her teacher's face and cried even harder. After some time, the tears stopped, and the sniffs and hiccups took over.

Why had they not believed her? Malory wondered. It did not help that someone had read the same book too!

It was a wonderful story she read during the holidays. The story was about a girl, whose grandmother had died leaving her with a lot of money. The girl had been so kind hearted that she had given out all the money to a poor family.

Malory had cried after reading the book. She made up her mind to tell the same story in class. Only _she_ would be the girl in the book!

Each person was expected to tell the class something that happened during the holidays, this would be hers!

Malory had combed her hair that morning until it shone and tied it up with one of her new hair ribbons. She looked in the mirror and was pleased with what she saw. She looked just like a star she was soon to become!

"the little girl held my cloth, while her Mum hugged me crying and thanking me"

Malory was startled to hear a loud chuckle from the back of the class. She made to continue but was interrupted by another giggle and then another until the whole class was laughing helplessly.

Mallory ran out of the classroom, too ashamed to keep standing in front of her classmates and friends.

Why was her life so ordinary?

She had nothing to talk about when she sat with her friends. They always had something happening in their lives!

Jan's parents were getting divorced, Fiona's Mum had handsome guys always coming around to their house or taking them out for dinner and Kim had two daddies who bought her anything she wanted. Turi lived with her big sister, a super model who took her on some of her shooting trips in many exotic places.

All she had was a father who adored his wife and a pregnant mother who was devoted to her husband. Malory's parents loved each other and their children very much and there were always lots of hugs, kisses and loud laughter in the house.

Mallory's big brother was the captain of the football club in college; he did not even have the decency of being arrested even once!

The only time a police officer had visited their home was
