the goblin zeppelin master in Orgrimmar, or Sprok, the teleporter operater in Gnomeregan. However, if you knew that naming a character Sanath Lim-yo was a tribute to veteran Starcraft gamer Lim Yo-Hwan, hats off.
All in all, most MMOs are just a race to the end-game, with the painstaking grinding in-between viewed as a "sink" to make the game profitable for the company. WoW however, provides an entertaining and immersive experience right from level 1. Every quest, instance, and area feels like it's part of the surrounding world, and gives you the sense that you are actually part of the World of Warcraft, that what you do has some greater effect on the world. It's the nature of MMOs to remain static, but somehow World of Warcraft has managed to escape the "sameness" that plagues most MMOs, simply by offering more content than most players could ever hope to complete. With the first paid expansion supposedly on it's way in January, Blizzard hopes to completely rejuvenate the game by adding 10 more levels, more instances, and a few new battlegrounds. Will the new expansion drive sales of the original game past the seven million mark and into a rivalry with the Sims? Only time, and the gaming public, will tell.
Bottom Line:
Execution: 7 of 10. Regular class and instance revamps give the feeling that the game isn't quite "finished".
Replayability: 9 of 10. There's always something new to do in World of Warcraft. Always.
Fun: 8 of 10. If you like this genre, you will LOVE this game like no other MMO. If you don't however, the constant grinding and questing, and the need for groups to complete some quests will put you off.
Overall Score: 8 of 10. A solid game, definately worth the 14-day free trial offered at www.warcraft.com.
