While watching the television show Jericho this season, I'm surprised at the similarities written between the lines. It is almost as if the show foreshadows a possible future for us if big corporations get their way and further infiltrate themselves into the military and governments of the world.

We already know that some corporations like Blackwater make their money through military conflicts. This is the same as the corporation in Jericho, only it is known as Ravenwood. Their tactics are as similar as their names. With all of the wrong doings, cover ups and immunity from international and national laws, it isn't that much of a far fetched idea to see what happens in Jericho, happen somewhere else. Acts of terrorism performed from the inside by people working for the infiltrated governments are used as catalysts for stripping away the fundamental rights of the people they are supposed to protect, in pursuit of complete power and control. Control over food, water, medical aid, electricity and virtually every aspect of people's lives.

In some ways I see that happening now. Look at the Patriot Act and the Domestic Spying Program, not to mention the secret meetings to pass a bill to privatize the military, thereby increasing the profits for corporations like Blackwater. Even bloggers, your average Joe, isn't safe for speaking their minds when it concerns government wrong doings. Instead they are threatened, harassed, and sometimes whisked away and labeled as an enemy combatant. What is this world coming to when the land of the free is no longer the land of the free?

Unfortunately Jericho's season was cut short drastically with only a seven episode season. Although rushed, they ended the series with an ending that brings one hope. With the right evidence against the corrupted governments, they were able to get the military on their side and begin the fight to gain America's freedom, starting the second American civil war.

It was a great sight to see the people of Jericho waking up and taking a true stand, without bloodshed. It was the beginning of the downfall of corporate controlled governments and the return of a country created by the people and for the people. I hope that Jericho was a wake up call for others, as it was for me.
