It was a warm spring day in Tulsa Oklahoma, not too hot with a light wind.It was just the right day for a drive maybe picnic in the park.
Jannie Andrews had the whole weekend off and she was not going to waist a minute. She had called her parents to tell them she would be out of touch a few days and would be at the lake cabin. She had all her fishing gear packed along with a ton of paperbacks. This was her one chance to escape her high stress job and enjoy a little quiet time.
Her friends thought it strange that Jannie went away weekends all alone, but Jannie had grown up a bit of a tom boy and she could out hunt and fish most men.People would tend to try and protect Jannie because of her small frame but Jannie was very independent and she let every one know her options and that she would not tolerate be babied.
Jannie put he final bag in the truck and was about to shut the lid when she forgot today is the first day of spring turkey season.Better get a shogun just in case,Wild turkey was one of Jannie's favorites. She ran back in and grabbed the the 12 Gage and 1 box of shells, put them neatly in the truck behind her suite case so it would not get scratched and closed the lid.
The drive across town was shortened by the expressways and it only took about ten minutes from her home on the south side to the edge of north Tulsa, from there there were no more expressways it was the old road through the north side and out into the hills where Skiatook lake was waiting.
This part of the drive always was the worst and Jannie tried to time it so that it there were plenty of daylight hours when she came through that area and her rule was never stop. The north side was know for its gang activity and high crime rate.It was somewhat ironic having to drive through all the violence and dismay to reach the serenity and seclusion of the lake.
Jannie was so excited to get away that she had forgot to fill the gas tank a familiar buzz ran out from the instrument panel, the low fuel light was on.She knew if she did not get fuel now that there were no more stations anywhere near the lake.A small twinge of nerves came over Jannie and she shivered at the thought then rationalized that it was daylight what could happen ? She pulled into a franchise station she felt safer than at the small stations.
Jannie got out and tried her credit card, it would not turn the on the pump.A group of cars came fast into the parking lot all at once and each went to separate
