Steps to overcome doubt

Doubt - that unnerving feeling of uncertainty - visits each one of us at one time or another during the journey toward achievement. When you're working hard to fulfill a dream, keep a New Year resolution, or achieve a daily goal it's not uncommon to wonder, periodically, if you're moving in the right direction, doing the right things, working hard enough, making progress - or if you're just spinning your wheels. Perhaps you've even questioned 'if' your dream, resolution, or goal is worth the all the effort. You worry that you might be wasting your time. You consider throwing in the towel and giving up.

Don't despair. Don't give up. Everyone experiences doubt. It's a natural part of the achievement process. When you're working hard at something, learning and growing, it's natural to feel uncertain at times. If you want to overcome those feelings, it's important to recognize them for what they are: obstacles to your success. Rather than worrying about this self-made roadblock and sinking further into indecision and uncertainty (if you're battling other obstacles as well) you must take the bull by the horns: be strong, determined, and willing to take immediate action, rather than waiting for a 'better day'. Consider these Five I Resolve To Steps For Overcoming Doubt:

1. Evaluate Your Situation: If you're feeling insecure and uncertain about your dream, resolution and daily goals, it's time to take a hard look at your plan, timeline, deadlines, obstacles, and hard won victories. Revisit the original intention - your dream and your specific resolution; your one-sentence promise to yourself (for instance, I Resolve To exercise daily for 30-minutes by walking, biking, swimming, and working out with weights, so that I can lose/maintain my weight, be healthy, fit, toned, and happy). Think about 'why' you chose that dream, 'what' you specifically hoped to achieve (your resolution), 'how/when' you planned to achieve it (your daily goals) - and above all for whom you're doing it. What has changed? What needs to change to move forward with confidence, enthusiasm and motivation? If you need to do more homework, do it. If you need to revise your plans and make course corrections, do it. Don't procrastinate. Get busy, one small step at a time, one day at a time!

2. Take Action: Doubt and indecision can stall progress. You're worried that you're not making enough progress, and that worry and doubt makes you so unsure about you need to do next that you just stop doing anything.
