of some games coming out these days, are unique as they are being made not just for the inner geek I use to (and still can be). Gaming is creeping back into the family' awareness and that's a very special and rewarding thing.
Look at the Nintendo WII. Let's be honest when was the last time prior to the WII have you seen parents, kids, neighbors anyone really hunt for a system that is designed to get you off the couch and actually be a big hit. There are nationwide Nintendo WII workout programs. Can you believe it? Video game workout programs? Who woulda thunk it?
Then there are the games that attractive women, in general. And I'm not just talking about those cutesy Pet Dog games for the Nintendo DS or dancing games. My wife, a confirmed video game hater'someone who had vowed NEVER to let our daughter play these things in favor of focused education is up in the mid-evening, not cooking dinner, struggling to get past Guitar Hero Bosses and doing battle with cats online. Here's the funniest thing I've ever heard and this is no lie. It was actually said: (My daughter wanted my wife to help her with something and she was getting frustrated)
(daughter) "Mommy! When are you gonna help me?"
(My Wife; playing Medium Guitar Hero Boss Tom Morrelo and actually winning) "One minute, baby. I'm almost through."
(Daughter) "You said you were gonna come help me, but you keep rockin'."
I was floored not to mention hungry. We had to order out that night, but the point is well, the point comes in multiple forms:
1) I don't care who says they can't stand video games. There will come one that will strike that inner desire to succeed and actually, believe it or not, have some fun, too.
2) Once that game is found, it can actually bring families together. My wife and I talk a lot these days only someone married can get the drift of that one. I found a friend in her outside of that person I married. By no means am I saying we had no more issues than any other marriage but, like I said, you have to be married to get what I'm saying. Finding that one or two in common' things, especially when it relates to your childhood' passion, makes the heart grow fonder.
3) If you like Guitar Hero, and I mean in a big way, there is a solid chance you are feeding that wicked rock star side of you and I can't hate you for that. The game draws you, you're practically put on stage and if you rock well, without learning a real guitar, you are given the props you probably would never have received in reality and that's okay.
Not everyone wants to be a real rock star. I sure don't but my wife and I we're on tour in our living room; thinking about getting the Rock Band Drum Set for the kids, a couple of extra guitars and we'll be here through the week. Don't forget to tip the waitress and buy our t-shirts!
Good night! Our family has left the building.
