Growing older and still playing video games

So my wife and I are in Wal-Mart when she holds up a very familiar rectangle box with a guitar on the cover costing about ninety-nine ($99) bucks. Today was a milestone, folks.

Here I am; a gamer since the Atari 2600 with the Sears Brand slapped on the cover, fronting for a piece of the gold rush back then. I own a Playstation 3 (and a whole lot of other systems not necessary to this story) and, up until recently, my wife couldn't understand why I'm up till the break of dawn, listening to the birds chirp, after hunting down scum opponents in WarHawkcussing out fellow players via the Bluetooth and everything.

So there she wasthe woman I really didn't think I had a lot in common with, holding up Guitar Hero with that gleam in her eye I haven't seen since she said, I do'telling me we got to get this game.'

For a minute, all time stopped. Who was this person? Is this the same person who denied me a spot on line when the Nintendo WII, Playstation 3, XBOX 360, Halo, etc, etc, etc and so forth first came out? Is this the same person who denounced my (and I quote) Immature reluctance to give up the toys of my childhood and stop playing video games with our own kids (end-quote)? Up until now, I just didn't believe this woman I married got it'.
She had the charge card out before I can even get a clear understanding of what was happening.

The interesting thing about Guitar Hero: It crosses boundaries and apparently promotes our inner rock star'. Guitar Hero, in short, has you playing a mock guitar with color-coded keys which you must play as they run down the screen in time with the music. Not as simple as I explained it, as most songs you play are legendary tunes that move very quickly if you don't have eye-hand coordination (for those in the know, I'm still on easy' and plan to remain there for awhile). I've never been a fan of color-hitting dance games so I had always let this game pass in favor of Resident Evil or role playing strategies. Funny thing, I never gave Guitar Hero much thought until my wife was opening up the box before I can get the rest of the groceries in the house.

"I saw it on the Today Show and I thought it would be so much fun!" As we all know, Guitar Hero is everywhere, but the last person I expected to care about sitting all day in front of the plasma screen was my nit-picking wife. Heck, she had the game loaded, guitar calibrated and poured through the instructions like like, well, she was me'.
I fell in love all over again.

Guitar Hero, like the trend
