Bocce is the most impromptu game in the world, at least how we play it. It's wealth of fun falls in the simplicity of requirements. All you need is a bocce set, three friends, and a piece of grass. It can be played while drinking, eating, conversing, or drinking. Did I mention you can drink while playing?

Bocce is by no means a drinking game, but having a beer or two while playing does little to hinder the skill of the game. If anything, it relaxes the competitors a little, making a smoother, more comfortable throwing style. A beer and some friends laughing is one of life's simplest pleasures, bocce gives a venue for this frivolity.

The real challenge is in the field of play, but the challenge produces frivolous carefree laughs. If there is any pitch, one way or the other, a bocce ball succumbs to the lay of the land. A player must play the slope, producing spectacular, curving shots. I have played on some of the most desolate, sun-scorched lawns in imagination, producing a ball that never stops. I've also played on lawns in desperate need of mowing, where the target ball (pallino) is barely visible.

The types of balls do not matter. The location of your field does not matter. All that matters is playing in the company of friends. Really it is a pastime of laughing and joyous nature, perfect for summertime shindigs.
