Testemonies: Coping with hardships in today's society
Coping with hardships is deffinently common and widely spread throughout todays society that we live in. These hardships are in a variety of forms and factors of which they effect our lives and the difference is of a great abundance in the areas that these hardships occur in our lives. The fact is they do occur and they are becoming more and more common in our society in those that are facing these hardships in there lives. In the article below I am giving a fine bit of inspiration that a friend once gave me when hardships was plenty and life seemed to be the lowest point ever in continuing on for me, yet now I'm glad I found strength to continue.
How Close to the Edge?
A certain transportation company was interviewing potential drivers. One test involved the question, "How close can you drive to the edge of the road and still feel safe?" Apparently there were "drop-offs" on the passenger side. Three individuals were tested. The first man said he would be able to drive along the very edge and still be safe. The next individual said he felt more comfortable staying away from the edge. The third one said he would stay away from the edge as far as possible, and he got the job.
God's Word has many similar warnings against living too close to the edge. Here are some: all appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22), old wives' fables (1 Timothy 4:7), corrupt minds (1 Timothy 6:5), youthful lusts (2 Timothy 2:22), foolish, unprofitable questions (Titus 3 :9), endless genealogies (1 Timothy 1 :4), lying (Colossians 3:9), bittemes (Colossians 3: 19), unfruitful works of darkness (Ephesians 5: 11), uncleanness and jesting (Ephesians 5 :3-4).
Many have fallen away from the true boundaries ofthe Gospel of Jesus Christ. They have followed the ways ofBalaam and Kore to their own hurt and destruction. Years ago a prominent leader of a plain church made the statement, "Away with the rail fence!"
He was referring to the guidelines of the church. That is driving too close to the edge! In I Corinthians 6: 12 Paul states the same words as in our key verse above, but ends by saying, "but I will not be brought under the power of any." He was speaking of the power of carnal desires that seeks to control our hearts when we lack vigilance. All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things
edify not. -1 Cor. 10:23 Grace that does not discipline will not save. - Menno Simons
