Seems like everyone nowadays wants to be their own boss. Heck, who wouldn't? Get up whenever you want to, avoid the daily commute, spend more time with your kids. It's living the dream, right?
Well, sort of. Working from home, like every other style of employment is a better fit for some people than others. Sure, there are a lot of people that love working from home, but, let's face it, there's a lot of people that don't. Below you'll find a list of common motivations people have for wanting to work at home and some of the draw-backs they often find when they actually start doing it. In essence, the pros and the cons.
Pro: You'll get to spend more time with your kids. This is a big factor in a lot of peoples decision to work at home. With a business based out of your home office you'll be able to be home when your kids get out of school, catch your baby's first step and know what your toddler has for lunch every day. You'll also have the wonderful freedom to occasionally play hooky for nothing more important than that Barbie picnic your daughters been dreaming about.
Con: You'll get less quality time with your kids. Not every day can include picnics and long heart-to-heart talks smack in the middle of your workday. So why is it all they hear is "just a second" and "mommy's busy right now"? Even if you know you're more involved in your kid's lives than ever it's harder to live with not being available all the time when you're nearby than when you have to drive a mile or two to the office.
Pro: You get to work in your pajamas. Admit it, it's part of the dream. You roll out of bed at 10:00 a.m., trail into the kitchen, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and sit down to work, all without ever changing out of your p.j.'s. There's something to be said for not having to strap on a suit and tie or a pair of pumps. At most work at home jobs every day is casual Friday'.
Con: You never see the light of day. Gone with the suit and tie are the business lunches and the meetings with clients. Working from home can be quite an isolating experience. You can actually go days or,
