There is something that we all have in common none of us wants to find an emergency staring us right in the face especially when it is in our home and is someone close to us. An emergency that requires first aid is always difficult but when it is someone close or someone we love our mind can tend to go into panic mode and all of a sudden everything we thought we knew and everything we thought we had prepared for can escape our minds when we need it the most. Being able to just instinctively run and grab a first aid kit with everything and anything we made need can mean the difference between life and death literally.
So what do we need in that first aid kit? What can we place in there to insure that we can do everything and anything we can in the face of an emergency? Most of us know the basics and they are pretty simple but the truth is most of us have it on our to do list in the back of our minds, but for one reason or another it doesn't seem to get done. How many times do we have a small cut or scrape and look everywhere for a band aid? You need to be pre pared and be responsible and never think that an emergency will never happen to you because it will. Will you be prepared? Will you have the supplies on hand to perform the tasks at hand?
You can find first aid kits that are pre assembled and all ready to go in a neat little carryall case in any of the major department stores. This is the option that a lot of people use because they like the convenience of having some one else put together everything and sense someone put it together it must have everything we need right? Wrong, most of these pre assembled kits have only some band aids and Tylenol, maybe some antibiotic ointment and tweezers. These kits are a good start but I would suggest adding to it to make it complete and useful or starting from scratch and making your own.
Of course the obvious you will want to start out with a container that is water proof, easy to carry, and can be stored where it is easily accessible. Include a first aid manual and be sure to study the manual before the emergency happens when you are calm and able to fully understand the steps and procedures that you must perform. Bandages are a must you will want big ones little ones and every size in between for big gashes or wounds a pad is really nice to have on hand. You will want antibiotic ointment to help against infection as well.
Burns are also a common injury have some burn spray on hand your first aid manual will also show you how to tell the difference between burns and to what degree the burn is. Stock you kit with things like medical tape, tweezers, q tips, latex gloves, sterile water, ace bandages, Tylenol, emergency phone numbers, and basically anything else that would benefit your family in an emergency such as certain medications and special instructions for special needs. Having written instructions is a must along with any medical conditions. You can actually contact your local 911 center with any of these details and when someone calls them special instructions and notes about your household will appear on their screen, you never know you might be the one needing the first aid. Just remember to be prepared remain calm, and restock your supplies as needed.
