An effective teacher makes good use of instructional time and inspires students to want to do well or to know more.Teachers do not become effective from a book or a college course. Teachers learn to be effective by finding out what works and what doesn't. They have the passion to want to always be adding to their knowledge and their skills in conveying knowledge to their students.
Effective teachers tell students what they are going to teach them. Then they get their information across in an efficient and interesting way. Then they tell their students what they were just taught.
Although an effective teacher may have a bad day or show the effects of stress from time to time, overall the effective teacher appears to like his or her job. An effective teacher shows, through his or her words and actions, that teaching is a two-way relationship, providing the teacher with personal reward and challenge.
An Effective teacher:
1) Always learns more about their subject area.
2) Reflects on where they can best teach.
3) Evaluates how they can better manage their classrooms and maximize teaching.
4) Collaborates with other teachers in different subject areas as well as in their own.
5) Communicates with parents throughout the year to report the positive and the negative.
6) Varies their mode of instruction, taking student learning style variations into consideration.
7) Offers a variety of ways for students to demonstrate their mastery of the instructional material. In additional to traditional tests and quizzes, students can do projects,Power Point presentations, and computer assignments to show what they know.
8) Shows that they care about and enjoy their students.
An effective teacher can positively influence a student as well as colleagues. When observing an effective teacher in action, the teacher looks like he or she is loving teaching and all that goes along with the job.
Students respect an effective teacher and, in turn, feel the respect the teacher has for them. The influence of such a teacher extends beyond a given semester or school year and is clearly remembered in future learning experiences.
