Summer is the easiest time of the year to have fun. Even normally mundane events such as waiting for a bus can be enjoyable on a hot sunny day. There is so much to do, the only problem is where to start.
Let's start with the most obvious:
Sunbathing. Take off your clothes, put on a bikini or some shorts, lay down in your favourite spot in the garden or on the beach, and enjoy. Make sure you use a sun cream to protect you from burning, and remember to turn now and then so you get a lovely even tan.
Getting wet. You can paddle or swim in the sea, go to the swimming pool, or have some kind of pool in your garden. It doesn't matter which, the point of it is to cool down when you are too hot, and most of all have fun. Splash around, throw water at your friends, chase each other with the garden hose or bottles of water. So long as you are out of doors the mess does not matter, as the sun will soon dry it out.
Reading. If lying around doing nothing is your idea of boredom, take a book when you go sunbathing. Get a novel by your favourite author, and enjoy a good story while you tan. Or flick through a magazine, or maybe a puzzle magazine such as ones for sudoku, or crosswords.
Barbeques. Invite your friends over for a barbeque, and don't forget the ones you rarely see. Travel in winter can be tricky, so think of people you would love to see and ask them over. If you have enough space maybe let them stay the night. If your children have friends to stay they will probably love being allowed to camp in the garden.
Visit somewhere new. Drive to somewhere you have always wanted to see, or take a coach trip, or the train. During the course of the summer, why not ask every member of the family for an idea, then do all of them.
Hang up a hammock. If you don't have trees to tie one up to, there are plenty of free standing ones around. Picture yourself swaying gently in the breeze, relaxed and tanned with an ice cold drink nearby.
Go to the cinema. This is perfect for those rainy days that are bound to happen, and when the children are playing up because they are bored.
Take photographs. They are a great way to record the good times in years to come. If the results are not as good as you had hoped for, play around with the special effects on your graphics programme and have a laugh at the changes.
Go for a walk. Maybe in the countryside, where you can climb up a hill for a fabulous view. Or follow a river to see where it goes.
Go cycling. It's much more fun in the sun, than on a cold miserable day. Pack some lunch and head into the country, pedal at your own pace and get fit at the same time.
And finally, do all the things you missed doing last year.
