Many people find it hard to maintain a good, solid conversation on a first date. Silence can become uncomfortable and you find yourself drifting back to what you could be doing elsewhere instead of sitting here in silence with someone you don't even know. Keep these topics in mind and make sure to ask questions about the person's response to keep the conversation going.
Movies, Television or Music
Everyone enjoys at least one if not all of these things. Talk about your favorite rock band or the movie you went to see last week. Discuss previews you have seen about new or upcoming movies, this could be a great way to see a second date. You might also find that the two of you share a common love for a certain television show or you both really enjoy movies with the same actors. This topic includes such a wide range of directions you can take the conversation in, making it a sure thing for a long and entertaining first date.
Vacations you have taken or want to take
Almost everyone has been on a vacation at some point in their life. If you have taken a recent trip then this is a great time to share funny stories about how you lost your luggage or tell them about the awesome view from your hotel room. If you don't have a recent trip to discuss try talking about a place you would like to visit. You can also ask your date about trips they have been on or want to see.
School or Careers
Usually people who are dating are either working or going to school, sometimes it's both. Talking about your jobs can be a great way to get the conversation going. Whining about how horrible it is can be annoying to your date so try to stay on the sunny side of things. If your going to school then talking about your major and what is happening in class could be pretty interesting to your date, but keep it light. Not everyone knows about science or has the desire to be a graphic artist like you.
Current events or news
What is happening in the world or something you seen on the news can make for a great conversation but remember to keep it light. Avoid politics, religion and anything else that would be classified as controversial. Try taking about local events such as an upcoming festival or improvements that are being made to your area. While many people can have a good conversation about controversial things, for some that is just more than they want to get into on a first date.
A first date is suppose to be fun and entertaining, making sure you have a good flow of conversation that you both enjoy is very important. Be yourself and let your true personality show and then you will see that the first date could be the beginning of many more dates to come in the future for both of you.
