Anxiety can become a big problem to a college student if they are not careful about their choices. There are many issues among students that if the problem spirals out of control it can cause a student anxiety which could lead to depression and worse.
There are a number of things that may cause a college student to have anxiety. The pressures of being a part of a sorority can be intense especially if the student's father or mother was a part of a particular one and wants their child to be a part of the same one. The parent may not realize the kind of pressures they are putting on the child and it could cause a huge amount of stress which will lead to anxiety.
If the college student got into the University on an athletic scholarship since he or she did so well while in high school, there can be tons of pressure to do just as well when in college. After high school a student has to learn to adjust to a different world in college. Especially if they were extremely popular in high school they will need to realize it won't be the same when they are in college. They have to start all over again and the competition is bigger and better.
If the student received a scholarship to attend a University then there can be potential anxiety if the student doesn't excel in the classes. If the student is failing then they could lose their scholarship money. Passing their classes is a major issue anyway just because they need to graduate. Lots of money goes out on college that it is vital to pass all of the classes otherwise money could be lost or the opportunity to continue may be lost as well.
Finally, fitting in with the other students can sometimes be hard when going to college. If you are living in a dorm and having to share your room with another person you have to be sure to get along with that person otherwise you will have a rough semester or year, depending on how long you reserved your dorm room for.
For all of these reasons mentioned college students could suffer anxiety attacks especially if there's more than one of these reasons at one time. College life can be difficult at times and there needs to be someone they could talk to in order to release their stress. There are typically counselor's on campus at all times. A student should be able to turn to them in their time of need. Sometimes the counselor will live on the premises while others will live off the campus. Either way there should be someone available for the student to get professional advice from.
