Even before I take the first sip of whatever the flavor of the day is, and, the varieties are endless, I inhale the incomparable smell of the first cup of morning coffee. I have to admit, that many more are following during the course of the day, but number 1 is simply the best! I feel instantly awake and alert, ready to take on whatever the day has in store for me and the scent of coffee is as happy-making as the best of perfume. That effect alone is an undeniable benefit and surely even the biggest antagonist to the brew cannot dispute, that joy is healthy.
Turning to health. I am constantly suffering from low blood pressure, so I much prefer a cup of coffee as remedy over drugs full of chemicals. At least, with coffee, you know what you put into your body and to get the dosage right is easy. I already hear people argue: but coffee is a drug too! OK, maybe, but quite frankly, what isn't? So, like with everything else in life, you have to make your choice and I prefer the natural happy maker and blood pressure booster called "coffee" to anything else.
So far, I have been talking about the benefits of coffee as they affect the body. But there is much more.
Consider the social and spiritual benefits. What can be nicer than to sit in a cafe and share a cup and a good natter with your friends? The stimulant makes the conversation flow and never clouds the mind as alcohol would. What joy also to try out new combinations and flavorings of coffee. My latest favorite is plenty of sugar and a sprinkling of ground white pepper on top. The fantasy takes flight!
Coffee of course needs to be prepared in or with something and to be drunk out of something. What I am talking about is the great variety of cafetieres, coffee pots, filters and lovely cups and saucers one needs. Again, the comparison with perfume springs to mind. I own and use at least 10 different scents and, according to mood, apply them. The same goes for coffee. One day, it's a quick fix, the next requires an elaborate celebration.
Lastly, what's left after the last drop of liquid has been consumed, is beneficial too. Nothing better for your plants than the dregs. Surely, what's good for your plants can't be bad for you. And, if you feel so inclined, you can even read your future out of the coffee grounds.
All in all, coffee is good for body and soul.
