Created on: March 24, 2008

In today's world having a prominent web page is synonymous with using a published telephone number. People construct web pages for all kinds of reasons such as business, personal or social.

For businesses, a web page is vital and those who do not maintain a page on the web lose a competitive edge. Socially, people often like to maintain a webpage to keep everyone abreast of what's going on in their lives. Some create webpages to market themselves and have more visibility.

Creating a web page takes a bit of work, but seeing the finished product is rewarding. There are two important components to consider when creating your web page: tools and construction.

TOOLS/SOFTWARE

Creating a web page used to be a daunting task and only those with strong technical and programming skills were able to effectively build a page. Nowadays it's all changed, with the array of software now available to assist, you too can create an attractive looking webpage with the right tools. There are several different software packages you can choose from which will assist you with the technical aspects of building a web page. Some of the more popular software to use in web page building are Front Page (Microsoft), Dreamweaver (Adobe), Actual Drawing and Web Page Maker.

The beauty of these tools is it allows you to build your page by using templates and adding text, animation, and graphics. There are some which even work with simple drag and drop techniques which makes them very user friendly for the web page novice. The best part is with some of these tools you don't even have to know Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) to do it. HTML can sometimes be rather intimidating for those who have never used any kind of programming. Armed with the right toolbox, you can get by with little or no HTML knowledge when building your page.

If you do a web search using key words such as "software build web page", a variety of other choices will be returned if the above software applications do not appeal to you. There are many free and proprietary options to choose from when selecting your software. It's a good idea to evaluate the various products and decide upon one based on your level of expertise.

Dreamweaver, for example, is a product in which it's helpful to either have some strong foundational knowledge in or to take a class in learning how to use it before diving in. Many professional website designers use it and it's one of the best programs out there, but it's definitely not for the beginning designer.
