This season, every woman who loves pink, chocolate, and is inspired by Sex and the City is looking for that perfect accessory to spice up their wardrobe. Instead of going crazy looking for an expensive broach or oversized necklace, why not go for something fashionable and functional? Handbags fit every woman for every occasion. Here is a brief guide to the season's top bags for the fashionable woman.

The shoulder bag is, without question, the most versatile of all the handbags. White and pastel colored shoulder bags are generally recommended for the summer, while a brown or black shoulder bag will complement your winter wardrobe.

This summer, the bigger the shoulder bag, the better. Look for large, brightly colored and patterned bags to fit in with this season's style. For ideas, search online for celebrity bags to see what the stars are carrying. The oversized bags are versatile and can be used on the red carpet or a day at the beach. However, small items such as cell phones and wallets can get lost in such large bags, so make sure your bag has an assortment of small pockets.

Smaller shoulder bags, while not quite as popular this season, never go out of style. Since bright colors are the look this season, and you can never go wrong with an eye-catching pattern. The shape of the bag is up to you and your own personal style. A hint: if you are going for the smaller shoulder bag, be sure to test the strap first. Thinner straps can cut into the skin, and if the straps are not long enough, your shoulder bag will be quite uncomfortable.

Clutches are also popular this season. A clutch that cannot hold your necessities is useless, so make sure it is large enough to hold at least your wallet, cell phone, and a tube of lipstick before purchasing. The clutch is often an evening look, so be daring in your color choice. Choose bright or flashy colors, such as gold or silver. Get a clutch with some sparkle, such as a glittery clasp or sequined patterns. A beaded clutch may be your top choice if you are daring. If you are into the vintage look, search for the perfect beaded clutch at vintage or thrift stores.

A messenger bag is the perfect look for a young woman on the go. Look for one that can fit your laptop (with some room to spare!). If you are a working woman, a better choice may be a briefcase. If you are fashion forward, look for a briefcase that says feminine but businesslike. A deep red briefcase can add that pop to your business suit but still says you are serious about your job.

One thing to keep in mind as you search for the perfect handbag is not to let your purse overpower you. Avoid wearing a flashy outfit with an equally flashy purse. Pick one article of clothing or accessory to be the spotlight in your outfit. So get a handbag (or three), get out there, and shine!
