Finding happiness at work

When you learn how to be happier on your job, you give yourself over 2,000 hours of added joy and satisfaction every year. Do you realize the average full-time employee spends 25 to 30 percent of their time at work? One way to look at it is, as long as you are going to be there anyway, learning to enjoy your job is essential for sustained happiness.

To all the cynics who are thinking "work is work; we're not supposed to like it or have fun doing it," I challenge you to continue reading with an open mind. A lot of people come to workshops I facilitate who absolutely hate their jobs. Some dislike their daily assignments, while others struggle with relationships, and there are even those who have trouble with both tasks and people. But they all leave with specific ideas and plans for improving their attitudes and outlooks.

No matter what your reason for being unhappy, it is possible to change your feelings about your career and learn to experience contentment and enthusiasm every day. If you already know how to stay relatively upbeat while you are "on the clock," keep reading as well. Hopefully you will discover a few new tricks of the trade.

If you want to be a totally happy person, knowing how to enjoy as many moments as possible each day is the key to success. You can learn how to create and maintain feelings of joy, delight, satisfaction, and passion no matter what you are doing by trying some of these methods while you are at work.

Developing a positive focus is one of the most important things you can do to increase your satisfaction and happiness. What do you think about when driving to and from work? When it comes to your thoughts and emotions, there are only two possibilities. They are either positive or negative because you can not experience both at the same time.

Your thoughts are about the only thing you can truly control, and you attract what you think about into your life. Maintain an optimistic and upbeat perspective by asking yourself this question on the way in to your job, "What do I want to go well today?"

By asking and answering this question everyday, you "train your brain" to bring good outcomes to your life. As you drive home ask a different question. "What were the three best things that happened today?"

Do you want to increase the joy in your workday? Interacting with coworkers who love to laugh is a great way to make it happen. Humor and happiness go hand in hand. So find ways to spend time on projects and going to meetings with as many entertaining
